The Manual #16 - Jesse Eisenberg's review reviewed

Film criticism is something both Mike Sheridan and Brian Lloyd know about having written about the silver screen for years. Recently Oscar nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg wrote a piece for The New Yorker - a "review" of a fictitious film. Basically, he was making fun of critics in a satirical fashion. Brian and Mike argue if he has a point or not and talk about their own experience of reviewing movies over the years.

Dara Quilty is a multiple award winning broadcaster and musician.

Currently presenting The Big Ride Home on 98fm, Dara and Mike started out in TV together for the first season of popular RTE 2 show, Two Tube. They discuss their time as presenters in RTE's Young People's Department, as well as Dara's award winning show on 98fm and his fledgling music career.

The Big Ride Home is on from 4-7pm Monday to Friday on 98fm, and Dara and his new band will be releasing music very soon.

The Manual #12 - Bond, Bradley Cooper & Netflix

After taking a short break, The Manual returns this week with show stalwart and all round movie genius Brian Lloyd.

Brian and Mike discuss the impact new Bond flick Spectre has had on the site, and ponder if the film is actually any good. They also find the perfect replacement for Daniel Craig - if he decides to move on from the role - while chatting about possible future directors.

Elsewhere Hollywood A-lister Bradley Cooper looks to have another underperformer on his hands as Chef flick, Burnt, suffers some extremely poor reviews. The lads thrash out possible explanations for another mid range budget failure for Cooper and ponder if it would've been better suited to Netflix.

The Manual #11 - Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell is one of the most popular actors to come from these here shores. The North Dubliner broke onto the scene 15 years ago as the lead in war flick, Tigerland, and quickly established himself as a leading man of choice for many top tier directors in Hollywood. His career has had many ups and downs, but the Golden Globe winning actor does some of his finest work in the beautifully mental 'The Lobster'. He talks to Mike about his work in the film and his career; while Mike makes a case for his most underrated flick. We're not sure he's convinced.

The Manual #10 - MMA fighter & coach Owen Roddy

Owen Roddy is one of the best combat sports athletes Ireland has ever produced. A former professional Mixed Martial Artist who fought out of SBG, Owen was competing against the best in the world before the UFC even had his weight class. Now a hugely in-demand coach, Owen has cornered  (alongside head coach John Kavanagh) current UFC star Conor McGregor for the vast majority of his fights and continues to as the Notorious one clears out the Featherweight division. Owen appears on this season on The Ultimate Fighter, currently airing on Bt Sports and Setanta Ireland as an assistant coach, and he also runs his own gym, SBG Charlestown in North Dublin.

Catherine Hardwicke burst onto the scene with her debut film, the visceral teen drama, Thirteen, announcing her as a director with urgency and an innate ability to get the best out of her actors. While she had cult success with Lords of Dogtown, her career went in an entirely different direction after the global box office sensation, Twilight; with her template for the series proving seminal in other franchises like The Hunger Games and Divergent. She dropped in to do The Manual and talk to Mike about her career and new flick, Miss You Already, with Toni Collette and Drew Barrymore.

The Manual #8 - Movie awards season preview

With both Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals showcasing some heavy hitters just in time for awards season, Mike and Entertainment.ie Film Editor Brian Lloyd sit down to discuss the favourites as well as the possible wild cards.

This year there is possible Irish interest in the form of Michael Fassbender, Lenny Abrahamson and Saoirse Ronan, while others could also compete with some sterling early notices in both of the festivals. The lads also discuss the late, great Wes Craven, who has Girl in the Photograph, his last work as a producer, premiere at Toronto.

Dr. Fionnula McHale owns and runs Invigorate Clinic in Dublin City Centre where she practices functional medicine having graduated from Trinity College Dublin, in 2010. She has worked with high level athletes in the NFL and the UFC. Fionnula also very much practices what she preaches, and is an elite athlete herself; a two time European Power Lifting Champion and a runner up in the World Power Lifting Championships. She chats to Mike about her extremely impressive career and just what exactly functional medicine involves, as well as her incredible work ethic inside and outside of the gym.

At still only 27 years of age Ais 'The Bash' Daly has achieved more in the sport of MMA than most fighters could dream of. Having trained out of John Kavanagh's SBG for around a decade alongside the likes of Conor McGregor, Paddy Holohan, Cathal Pendred and Gunnar Nelson, she made a successful debut in the UFC having featured as a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Pettis vs. Team Melendez. The Manual #3 - Jack Whitehall

At 27 years of age Jack Whitehall is one of the biggest comedians working the European circuit. A seemingly permanent fixture on the major British television networks, he's also an actor and writer who has just finished his first film. The Bad Education Movie is the big screen version of the hugely popular BBC series that Whitehall writes, produces and features in, and it's released in Irish cinemas on August 21st. Jack dropped into chat to Mike about the film, the transition to acting, as well as touring Ireland, his mate James Corden and Miriam O'Callaghan having 30 kids.

Peter Carroll is one of the most well respected MMA journalists in Europe. He is a regular contributor to Fightland, The Irish Mirror and Severe MMA and has covered MMA events from local shows, all the way to pay per view UFC events. He recently spent a week in the Mac Mansion, with Conor McGregor as he prepared for his fight with Chad Mendes ahead of UFC 189.
